Christian Writing: Darcie Chan's Rise To Become A Best-Selling Self-Published Fiction Author

This summer, Darcie Chan's debut novel became an unexpected hit. It has sold more than 400,000 copies and landed on the best-seller lists alongside brand-name authors like Michael Connelly, James Patterson and Kathryn Stockett.

It's been a success by any measure, save one. Ms. Chan still hasn't found a publisher.

Five years ago, Ms. Chan's novel, "The Mill River Recluse" which tells the story of a wealthy Vermont widow who bestows her fortune on town residents who barely knew her, would have languished in a drawer. A dozen publishers and more than 100 literary agents rejected it.

[youtube_sc url=http://youtu.be/Sh-N8QImRf4 rel=0 fs=1 autohide=1 modestbranding=1]

If you have been around this blog for anytime at all you know I
really really really believe that creating a self-hosted WordPress
site is the BEST website a church can create.

Here are just a few points that churches should consider as
they move to create a church website:

  • With WordPress anyone who can use MS Word can update the site
  • With WordPress search engines, like Google, will rank your site quickly
  • WordPress releases updates frequently to keep your church website secure

That said I also know a lot of my readers get lost at the
prospect of creating ANYTHING online

Christian Living: What Is In Your Spiritual Bucket List

[youtube_sc url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8KediU6EPI rel=0 fs=1 autohide=1 modestbranding=1]

During New Year's season every year, people hurry to make New Year's Resolutions. Most of which they will never start much less ever keep. That said, each new year is a good time to assess where we are in life, mentally, physically, spiritually, and of course financially.

Many people write things like they would like to be more empathetic, compassionate and — at critical moments — more silent, A friend of mine once said that his resolution for the new year was to  "Speak no harm."

So as I was working through my goals for the new year, my mind recalled 2008 movie "The Bucket List". You remember, two aging men with fatal illnesses, played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, leaped from planes, drove race cars, and more, crossing off challenges on their bucket lists. Finally, of course, they realized by the end that peace with those you love was more important than any adrenalin-charged adventures on the dream "do" list.

Church Leadership: What works for our teens in church? What can we do about reaching them?

I saw this posting on the churchemarketingsucks.com website and I thought it was just plain GREAT!

We continue to miss the mark with young adults and teens in church, and there are a number of reasons why.

Ty, in the article below, clearly articulates why many of the approaches, we think should work, don't work.

I want my grandchildren in the Kingdom period! If I have to change my approach to reach them, so be it.

I just CANNOT and WILL NOT change the message. That position is non-negotiable and non-adjustable.

How do you feel about what Ty has to say?

Are you offended or motivated? Do you think he is right?

Tell us what you think after your read his plea.

A Teenager’s Plea: Don’t Suck

by Ty Buckingham

There are some things that just get to me.

When I leave the Taco Bell drive through knowing, without even looking into the bag, that they have messed up my order.

I certainly don’t like it when I end up shaking hands and it was supposed to be a fist bump. That’s just awkward.

Those are little.

What seriously gets to me is when there is a lack in how the church talks to us. Especially as a teenager in high school, I couldn’t feel more neglected by the church at times.
