Born in Jackson, Michigan in 1954, Bishop Brown has always known that he was a product of the prayers of his Grandmother Sarah Fletcher. She petitioned God for a grandson and God responded through her only surviving child Ellendora Martha Brown, even though she was 40 years old, unmarried and had never had any children.
Through the love and encouragement of his Godly grandmother and mother James flourished in the harsh environment of the city of his birth. A rough child Jimmy, as he was called, loved sports & was a pretty good student.
In the 9th grade, his family received financial assistance to attend a new catholic high school in the city, Lumen Christi, for the purpose of integrating the school. He became a child without a neighborhood. Rejected for the most part by his school mates, as well as, the community where he had grown up.
It was during this chaotic time in his life, that Bishop began a prolonged season of rebellion against everything his calling represented and the values held by his grandmother and mother. to be continued ….
