Should Churches Trademark their Names and Logos?
Mars Hill Church in Seattle and unrelated Mars Hill Church in Sacramento recently settled a name dispute. The Seattle church, which is planting multisite campuses across state lines, trademarked its name and logo in August. The Sacramento church agreed to change its logo and recently decided to change it to Real Life Church to minimize confusion as it expands.
What do you think? Should A Church Trademark Their Legals?

We are all the body of Christ, the main reason a church would want to trademark their name or logo is to build their own empire. On the other side, their are others who copy others to be successful. Shouldn’t we be focused on serving Christ with the gifts He has given us, instead of trying to look good and be jealous of others ministries. Unfortunately, we live in a Christian culture that wants to be successful instead of being faithful. Just my thoughts.
Hi Donbec,
Thanks for your response.
As I said in response to another post….. What would be your position if another church, with the same name as yours, came under public ridicule for something bad (mass murder, a pastor who is a pedophile, etc.). Would you still oppose putting a trademark on the church names?
Just asking.

Churches battling over trademark naming rights? Surely you cant be serious. I agree 100% with Donbec74. Any church that feels the need to trademark its name is focused on building its own kingdom, not God’s. Alas, this is all too common among suburban mega churches all across America.
